Last week I was in Victoria, BC, Canada to attend Destination Canada’s Innovate Canada Oceans event.
Great meetings with ocean innovators and leaders from Canada and beyond, including:
🌊 Bill Collins from Cascadia Seaweed highlighting his inspiring journey to set up Canada’s largest seaweed farm with a mission to produce climate-positive biomass in the ocean.
🌊 Ocean Networks Canada (part of the University of Victoria) and particularly its recent focus on capturing C02 and storing it beneath the sea floor as “Solid Carbon”.
🌊 Seaspan ULC’s Victoria Shipyard, a major ship repair and modernisation facility.
🌊 Meeting innovators during a reception at Canada’s Pacific hub for the sustainable blue economy, COAST (Centre for Ocean Applied Sustainable Technologies), showcasing innovations such as Greenline Marine Inc. (all-electric ferries), zero-emission Alberni Yachts and SEAMOR Marine Ltd.’s remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
🌊 Open Ocean Robotics and its solar-powered autonomous boats.
Amazing setting in Victoria with lots of exciting activities such as whale-watching and a seaplane tour of the harbour. Great to join the experience with fellow ocean enthusiasts Chris Ostrander, João Formiga, Millicent Pitts, Rick Murray and Rick Wall.
