Moderating several sessions at the World Ocean Summit in Montréal

I’m looking forward to moderating several sessions at Economist Impact’s 13th annual World Ocean Summit & Expo in Montréal (March 4–5).

I’ll be leading discussions across the Nature-Based Solutions track and beyond, including:

• Innovating to protect and restore coral reefs
• Building long-term resilience with mangrove ecosystems
• Cultivating a blue economy through aquatic vegetation (seaweed & seagrass)
• How to accelerate MPA implementation: from global commitments to on-the-water delivery
• Roundtables on scaling ocean innovation and science–policy delivery

With less than five years to 2030, the question is no longer about ambition, it’s about implementation, finance and governance.

Martin Koehring is a global sustainable finance and blue economy leader working at the intersection of capital systems, ocean sustainability and international development.

Over more than 20 years, he has held senior roles across multilateral institutions, think tanks and global initiatives. Most recently, he served as Ocean & Finance Specialist at the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), contributing to the development of innovative ocean finance mechanisms including the One Ocean Finance Facility and the BBNJ Finance Advisory Group linked to implementation of the High Seas Treaty.

Previously, he held leadership roles at UNIDO, Forum for the Future and The Economist Group. He currently serves as Trustee of the Marine Conservation Society and the New Economics Foundation.
