💙 Representing the Sustainable Blue Economy Finance Initiative at UNEP FI, I will join a panel on “The zero-pollution ocean: risk and opportunities”, speak about “How to drive solutions for the success of the Global Plastics Treaty”, and moderate a session on “How to shape global standards for blue data, technology and capacity building”.
🏦 Through their lending, underwriting and investment activities, as well as their client relationships, financial institutions have a major impact on ocean health. They can accelerate and mainstream the sustainable transition of ocean-linked businesses and industries. Science-based, actionable guidance and tools can help banks, insurers and investors align decision-making with a healthy, pollution-free ocean. The Sustainable Blue Economy Finance Initiative (SBEFI), established in 2020 and hosting the Sustainable Blue Economy Finance Principles, focuses on the mainstreaming and scaling up of finance for the Sustainable Blue Economy. The SBEFI works in partnership with the financial community, scientists and experts in the field on practical guidance, workshops, webinars and toolkits to bring a sustainable blue lens to financial decision-making.
🌐The World Ocean Summit convenes a wide cross-section of the ocean community from business and finance to government, national and international policy-makers, civil society and academia. The 12th annual summit will focus on the transition to a sustainable ocean economy, ocean stewardship, strategies to restore ocean health, advancements in marine technology and collaborative efforts to address ocean pollution. The agenda will include a series of “How to” workshops designed to generate tangible action points and key takeaways to enable organisations to instigate change and make an impact on the journey towards a healthier ocean.
