Moderating a keynote and panel discussion at Oceanology International

I’m looking forward to moderating a keynote and panel discussion at Oceanology International London on 10 March:

Protecting the Environment in Coastal Waters

Coastal ecosystems are under increasing pressure, from spatial competition and infrastructure to climate stress and biodiversity loss. The question is no longer whether innovation exists, but whether it is translating into real-world impact.

In this session, we’ll explore:

• Where coastal protection efforts still stall, from consenting complexity to data trust and fragmented governance
• Which innovations are genuinely reducing friction, from earth observation and autonomous monitoring to habitat engineering and nature-based solutions
• What unlocks scale: regulatory clarity, partnerships, long-term monitoring, and sustained commitment beyond pilots

I’ll be joined by an excellent panel including experts from the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas), Environment Agency, and Haskoning.

If you’re attending Oceanology International, do come by the COAST Theatre on Tuesday afternoon, and feel free to reach out in advance if there are particular questions you think we should address.
