This week I will be joining 6,000+ islanders from around the world at the Island Finance Forum organised by Island Innovation.
Following an opening keynote by His Excellency Surangel Whipps Jr, President, Republic of Palau, I will moderate a session on “Building a Blue Future: Harnessing the Hope of the Ocean”. I will be joined by a great panel:
• Jean-Paul Adam, Director, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa;
• Melissa Walsh, Program Manager, Ocean Finance Initiative at Asian Development Bank (ADB); and
• Transform Aqorau, Professor and Director of the Institute of Ocean, Islands and Sustainable Development (IOISD).
For island communities, the ocean’s resources and opportunities are crucial in battling hunger, unemployment and promoting economic success. Harnessing the blue economy offers a unique opportunity for islands to promote economic development while preserving and supporting the health and integrity of the ocean and human well-being.
The event is free to attend and I encourage you to join us as stakeholders from across the world, to collaborate on issues and solutions for sustainable and inclusive financial structures and exchange knowledge in order to drive investment for island communities.
