Joining the Marine Conservation Society as a Director/Trustee

Im delighted to join the Marine Conservation Society as a Director/Trustee!

The Marine Conservation Society is the UK’s leading marine charity by and for ocean lovers. It focuses on addressing the climate crisis, protecting marine wildlife and cleaning up our ocean. It does this through a powerful combination of scientific research, advocacy, education, and community engagement.

Its flagship programmes include:

🌊 Great British Beach Clean: An annual event where thousands of people across the UK participate in beach cleans and contribute to citizen science.

🌊 Source to Sea Litter Quest: A campaign that helps track pollution back to its source and provide data to find solutions to ocean pollution.

🌊 Beachwatch: A year-round programme that aims to raise awareness of plastic pollution and influence positive behaviour change. Beachwatch is the UK’s longest-running beach clean and marine litter survey programme.

🌊 Seasearch: A programme for divers and snorkellers to collect information about marine life, habitats and plants. Volunteers help track the health of the ocean and can participate in training.

🌊 Good Fish Guide: The guide highlights the most and least sustainable fish, so people can make better seafood-buying choices. There are more than 600 sustainability ratings on the Good Fish Guide, covering around 130 species.

🌊 Wildlife Sightings: A programme where people can report wildlife sightings, especially marine turtles and jellyfish in UK and Irish waters. This provides vital information to scientists about ocean health in order to protect marine wildlife.

Im looking forward to bringing my experience and skills in charity governance and building a sustainable blue economy to this fantastic organisation. Im particularly excited to join my fellow trustees (chair Amanda Nobbs, vice chair Mark Haviland, treasurer Susan Ronaldson, James Arnell, Simon Brockington, Polly Burns, Wadham Downing, Jonathan Hall, Joyce Lorigan, Deb Mahon, Jessica Montgomery, Will Oulton, Seth Richardson, Rebecca Rodney, Raj Roy, Helena Thernstrom, Stef Tiratelli) as well as the brilliant CEO Sandy Luk and her leadership team in accelerating the organisations influence and impact.
