As 2022 draws to a close, Economist Impact’s World Ocean Initiative celebrates some of the key achievements of the year, including progress on a global plastics treaty and the acceleration of blue carbon markets. We also highlight ongoing gaps in achieving a sustainable blue economy, such as the need to value women in the blue economy and accelerate shipping decarbonisation.
The need to tackle the greatest challenges facing the ocean—climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution—will remain our priority for 2023. Through our coverage on WOI and at the World Ocean Summit we will bring the ocean community together to inspire ocean solutions.
We wish you a happy festive season and hope to welcome you at our events in the new year!
