We are in the decade of action on sustainability. COP26 focused on major pledges: from ending deforestation and slashing methane emissions to phasing out greenhouse gas-emitting cars and agreeing rules on carbon markets. An Economist Impact survey in 2021 revealed that 69% of global businesses had set a net-zero goal, while almost three-quarters (74%) planned to have reached this goal by 2025 and about 90% were optimistic about the outcome. Now is the time to turn these commitments into action.

Communicating the benefits—as well as challenges—of embarking on sustainability initiatives, based on evidence and transparency, is crucial in overcoming greenwashing and creating real-world impact. This creates huge opportunities for marketing agencies and PR professionals to tell compelling stories of how business can be a force for good. What are the top sustainability and climate trends to watch in 2022? How can marketing teams tell compelling solutions-oriented stories? How can greenwashing be avoided?
